500,000
As had been predicated months ago, we have finally reached that grim milestone. 500k dead in the US from Covid. I can’t but wonder how many of those were preventable?
I can really sense COVID fatigue settling in across the nation. While I can see light at the end of the tunnel, the less than stellar rollout of the vaccines has been deplorable. I have run by Javits Centre numerous times on my weekly workouts, still possible within midtown because traffic and people are still light on the ground, where they are supposedly deploying mass vaccinations. But each time I go by, there is no one there. The place appears empty. Frankly, the only thing missing is tumbleweeds. The problem seems to be citywide. There’s nothing more depressing than hearing half empty bottles are being thrown away because it wasn’t some groups turn to be vaccinated. Instead of just offering it to people that turn up on standby or something.
Who am I to complain? Things could be worse, I could be in Texas this week dealing with no water and a $10,000 electric bill.
Double masks or not, I’m going to really lose my marbles if I don’t get a jab by June. I gotta get out of here!
Update: Today I decided to actually go into Javits Center and inquire about getting vaccinated. Apparently anal warts does not get one to the front of the line. A very nice soldier (it appears the military are partially running the site) explained the issue is supply. There is barely any. He said if they had supply they’d be ready to rock and roll. They are setup for mass vaccination and are slowly going through those folks eligible to get the jab now. (FYI – I do not have anal warts).
