Banana Republic
Admittedly, I haven’t spent much time, if any, in a banana republic, but what I witnessed in NYC today feels like I’m in a banana republic. A very big one at that. A day before the general election, Manhattan, once again, is boarding up all its stores in anticipation of riots and protests a day before we go to the polls. A country rife with voter suppression, voter intimidation, a President undermining faith in the election, openly saying if he doesn’t win, it will be because of fraud. Hardly feels stable.
I voted early. I’m lucky, I only stood in line for 2 hours or so. I know others who waited over 4 hours. That is the definition of committed. They say that voting for something inspires rather than voting against something. But this is essentially a referendum on America – normal rules don’t apply. Exercising one’s right to vote, embracing the idea of democracy that’s what wars are fought over. But come on America, let’s make it easier and more efficient to vote – we are in the digital age after all.
COVID updates: 231,665 US Deaths. 9,300,314 US infected.
Meanwhile, I shot this little film today on my lunch break. Pretty much sums things up.
If you’re voting tomorrow, be safe. Don’t be intimidated, Wear a mask. Stand apart. Remarkable I even have to write that.
