Three years and one pandemic later…
Picture credit Thomas Concordia I took a long two year break from documenting the worst days of the pandemic here in New York – here’s a little update. I lost a few other folks along the way, including my brother. But here we all stand, a testament to resilience but really, more one of luck. I’d started writing this blog as a way to keep my sanity during the New York lockdown. I felt if I could pour words into what I was seeing, thinking, feeling, I could disassociate myself from what, at that time, seemed like an endlessly despairing path to hell. It was two years before I finally…

The little engine that could
After marinating on the footage I shot, I decided to make a documentary. There were numerous storylines I could have taken, but in the end I thought I'd make a more personal story.

Summer of Firsts
For a millisecond, who didn't wonder last March if this was the beginning of an extinction event? How else could you get over 8 million New Yorkers to stay indoors for so long? ...

Life in NYC is…

Grand Openings and New Beginnings
July 1st sees the full re-opening of New York. For those of us who live here, it already feels like a new beginning. Almost everything is open. The only thing I can’t do is work in my office. I joined my company during the pandemic, so I’ve never actually met any of my new colleagues in person. But at this point, I’m “zoomed” out, so I’d relish a few optional days in the office later this year. An additional bonus includes finally discarding my mask since, per the CDC’s guidance, I’m fully vaccinated. Which couldn’t have come sooner. Because of the masks, I developed an unusual condition that felt like…

500,000
I have run by Javits Centre numerous times on my weekly workouts, still possible within midtown because traffic and people are still light on the ground, where they are supposedly deploying mass vaccinations. But each time I go by, there is no one there.

A Pandemic Christmas
Fearing there wouldn't be any trees this year, I went and bought a fake one. The day it arrived, the Canadians set up shop down the block with their real trees.

Home Schooling – Part II. Lessons learned.
13 things I learned from homeschooling....six hours of cartoons does not make a three year old cross eyed.

Lines, Q’s & Coups
There were lines for everything, likely instilling a saintly patience in the Russian psyche. Not so for the rest of us.

Making Traditions seem “Traditional” in a Pandemic
...making yearly traditions seem somewhat normal during a pandemic.
