Tunnel light & moving images

It’s been a while. Belated Happy New Year. If you can call it that. But hey let’s not let a pandemic break an annual tradition of New Year’s greetings. Since my last post on Dec 23rd, there were 326,345 deaths in the US and “only” 18,910,000 cases. Fast forward six weeks and we are at 439,500 dead and 26.1m cases. For the math challenged, that’s 113,100 dead in just six weeks. Let that sink in. Half avoidable? Arguably yes.

These new variants scare the crap out of me. So we are being extra cautious. This pandemic is closely tracking the 1918 Spanish Flu. We are heading into the third wave almost the same way they did 100 years ago. And it appears we have learned nothing since. But help is at hand. I feel that since Jan 20th, the adults have entered the room with an action plan, led by science, organization and common sense for the first time since the pandemic began. As grim as the numbers are, there is light at the end of this tunnel. The question is, will it be summer or the fall when we get to see that light of day? But it’s coming. (I’m taking the positive view).

And since Jan 20th, I’ve got my life back. No longer glued to the tv, nightly divining a narcissist’s attempts to destroy democracy or reshape the world into his own wrapped vision….akin to an ancient mentally challenged grandad, with opinions. Now I’m happy to get the quick news highlights of the day and move on, confident in the knowledge that someone is in charge. It’s now not about one person but what’s best for the country. You know, adults, professionalism, words and that sort of thing.

So, I’ve used my free time to reskill. Instead of being glued to opinion based evening news, I’ve been ideating, scripting, storyboarding, graphic designing, shooting and editing commercial spots for my company and other startups, who typically can’t afford something like this. It’s been fun and creative. And gets me back to my roots as a filmmaker. (ya want some? Call me!)
